C-11: The Return of a Significant Aircraft from Kunovice Aviation History

In a year when we celebrate 90 years of aircraft manufacturing in Kunovice, we are symbolically looking back at one of the most important aircraft ever manufactured at the local factory – the C-11.

The C-11 was a licensed version of the Soviet Yak-11 and was manufactured in Kunovice between 1953 and 1956. A total of approximately 708 aircraft were produced. The C-11 played a key role in the training of military pilots and represented an important transitional type between the piston and jet eras of military aviation.

Thanks to close cooperation with the Kunovice Aviation Museum, one example of this historic aircraft has been preserved and carefully restored. Symbolically, the restoration took place in the same site and hangar where the C-11 was originally manufactured more than 70 years ago. The project also involved Aircraft Industries, the successor to the original manufacturer – the national enterprise LET.

The restored C-11 aircraft will be officially unveiled later this year as part of the celebrations marking 90 years since the founding of the Kunovice aircraft factory, symbolically 70 years after its maiden flight.

Once again, the C-11 highlights the strong story of Kunovice aviation – a story of tradition, expertise, and manufacturing that has been part of this region for nine decades.
